This paper investigates the socio-demographic and behavioural factors influencing consumers’ choices in the disposal of used garments. While most literature focuses on purchase intentions, this study explores postconsumption practices (such as donation, recycling, and resale) with specific attention to the Italian context, which is currently under-researched. Following a structured literature review, a dedicated survey was designed and distributed, collecting 1,527 valid responses through academic, industrial, and social media channels. Descriptive statistical analysis was conducted using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) to examine relationships between individual profiles and disposal behaviours. Results indicate that gender, age, and income influence the number of items disposed and the preferred disposal method, with textile bins and charitable donations being the most common choices. The findings also highlight information gaps, logistical barriers, and differences in sustainable attitudes across population segments. This study contributes to understanding the behavioural dimensions of textile waste and supports the objectives of the SusTex project toward more circular and inclusive textile systems.
