This article investigates Abraham a Sancta Clara’s approach to war and soldiers through the analysis of the antinomies of thought underlying some of his lexical and syntactical choices, in particular in the sermon Soldaten-Glory (1676) and in the treatise Auff, auff ihr Christen! (1683). Language is for Abraham a Sancta Clara an expression of the fundamental ambivalence of the world by means of never-ending series of antitheses and antonyms, as well as frequent oxymora, which reflect the eternal struggle between good and evil.
L’articolo indaga l’approccio di Abraham a Sancta Clara al tema della guerra e alla figura del soldato tramite l’analisi delle antinomie di pensiero che sottendono talune scelte lessicali e sintattiche ricorrenti in particolare nella predica Soldaten-Glory (1676) e nel trattato Auff, auff ihr Christen! (1683). La lingua diventa espressione della sostanziale ambivalenza del mondo attraverso interminabili serie di antitesi e antonimi, nonché frequenti ossimori, in cui si riflette l’eterna lotta tra bene e male.
