This essay discusses the presence of mnemonic imagery in mid-sixteenth century ceremonial entries through an analysis of tableaux vivants and triumphal arches erected in the 1540s in honour of Henri II of Valois, Charles V, and Philip II. The conclusion highlights how these ephemeral assemblages exploit the multisensory attributes of the art of memory to fabricate historical narratives. An epilogue explores the contributions of digital archives to the study of early modern representations of memory.
