In this thesis we will study the properties of a number of functionals related to Material Science. In partcular we are interested in the energy of models such as Peridynamic, Micromagnetism, Elasticicty and many other. It is well known that Calculus of Variations is a key tool in order to understand these models. Our aim is to show some examples of how classical results of Calculus of Variations and Functional Analysis such as the Direct Method of Calculus of Variations and Gamma-convergence can be used to study these energies.
