Considering the complex network of relationships that connects researches and protagonists from the European avant-gardes of the twenties, with a particular interest for interchanges between Futurism and Zenitism, this article will focus its attention on the experience of the Trieste Constructivist group, which has in the constructivist room of the I esposizione del Sindacato di belle arti e del Circolo artistico di Trieste (1927) its most significant achievement. Going through the formation and artistic research of August Černigoj, and of his student Edvard Stepancic, we intend to verify the aesthetic, political and identity meaning that the recover of the constructivist lesson by a Slovenian artist, active in Trieste, assumes in the cultural context of the julian avant-gardes.
