Looking at selected passages, this essay explores the ways in which Orlando Furioso is re-used within Il Giorno: from stylistic elements denouncing the classicist origin of Parini's textual method to allusions to Ariostean episodes, in a cultivated game of masking and revelation, with special focus on two similes in which the reference to the source is more explicit. Defined by Parini as a “poem / novel”, Furioso conjures up a fantastic and dynamic world in stark contrast to the repetitive day of the young nobleman, producing parodic effects in keeping with the ethical engagement of the short poem.

Abstract
Looking at selected passages, this essay explores the ways in which Orlando Furioso is re-used within Il Giorno: from stylistic elements denouncing the classicist origin of Parini's textual method to allusions to Ariostean episodes, in a cultivated game of masking and revelation, with special focus on two similes in which the reference to the source is more explicit. Defined by Parini as a “poem / novel”, Furioso conjures up a fantastic and dynamic world in stark contrast to the repetitive day of the young nobleman, producing parodic effects in keeping with the ethical engagement of the short poem.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
