The title is a quotation from a passage in the "Brevissima descrizione di Viadana e suo marchesato"; the passage was reprinted in that sort of pseudo-encyclopedia, "Delle Arti e degli Artefici di Mantova" by Carlo D’Arco, published in 1857. But that’s not all. Isacci was mentioned by Ferrario in the famous "Storia e descrizione dei principali Teatri antichi e moderni", published in Milan in 1830, and Antonio Parazzi himself - a preeminent figure in of the late 19th century - a historiographical monument that is simply indispensable for studying the Oglio-Po region of Mantua - speaks of him in laudatory terms, devoting considerable space to him and enabling us to understand that we are speaking of an artist who worked in the most important theaters between the 18th and 19th centuries, at the twilight of the late Baroque vogue (Milan, Parma, Cremona, Mantua, etc.). This scholarly introductory clarification is the necessary starting point for realizing that, in a hypothetical ranking of figures from the Lower Lombardy region during the Habsburg era who have fallen into oblivion, Clemente Isacci must be placed among the top ranks, due to a particularly unfortunate historiographical - and thus critical - legacy. This conference provides an opportunity to finally shed light on this eclectic figure from Viadana, a student of Antonio Bibiena, who is known in the region only for his work on the Incoronata in Sabbioneta and - based on the same passage by Araldi - for having designed several stage sets for the new theater in Viadana, designed in 1769 shortly before his death by the architect Pietro Antonio Maggi, who was also from Viadana.
