Premessa. Gesti nello spazio della Long Renaissance: un cantiere aperto

Introduction. Gesture in the Space of the Long Renaissance : A Work in Progress Linking the monographic section published in the journal in 2021 with the proceedings of the ISCH Potsdam conference, this editorial will summarise some themes common to the four contributions comprising the section, highlighting the interdisciplinary nature of the topic and the variety of tools required to decode the liminal space of gesture. In its role as a complement or alternative to the verbal code, gesture in the cultures of the Ancien Régime can be a site of relationship, a social ritual, or even an educational tool whose potential remains to be fully explored from the perspective of a paideia that eludes the categories of the formal and the informal.
