Language, traditionally studied as an abstract symbolic system, can be better understood through a multimodal perspective that emphasizes the role of embodied experience in linguistic processing. This paper explores the relationship between the theory of embodied simulation and language, positing that language comprehension and production are grounded in the brain’s sensorimotor systems. It reviews evidence showing that different sensory modalities and motor systems collaborate to form a coherent linguistic experience. Understanding language involves the activation of neural circuits associated with motor actions, perception, and social interaction. The integration of the body’s multimodal experiences into language processing provides a more comprehensive framework for understanding language as an embodied and interactive phenomenon.

Abstract
Language, traditionally studied as an abstract symbolic system, can be better understood through a multimodal perspective that emphasizes the role of embodied experience in linguistic processing. This paper explores the relationship between the theory of embodied simulation and language, positing that language comprehension and production are grounded in the brain’s sensorimotor systems. It reviews evidence showing that different sensory modalities and motor systems collaborate to form a coherent linguistic experience. Understanding language involves the activation of neural circuits associated with motor actions, perception, and social interaction. The integration of the body’s multimodal experiences into language processing provides a more comprehensive framework for understanding language as an embodied and interactive phenomenon.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
