Did the figurative and architectural styles of the Upper Adriatic region spread westward along the axis of the Po River and its basin during the Early and High Middle Ages? And, if so, to what extent? In particular, attention will be paid to the Archdiocese of Ravenna, the last capital of the Roman Empire. Through a series of case studies, this research will examine potential models, their diffusion, and their relationship with potential patrons within the broader context of ecclesiastical territorialization. The analysis addresses substantive – not merely methodological – questions in the history of medieval art in Western Europe between the High and Late Middle Ages.

Abstract
Did the figurative and architectural styles of the Upper Adriatic region spread westward along the axis of the Po River and its basin during the Early and High Middle Ages? And, if so, to what extent? In particular, attention will be paid to the Archdiocese of Ravenna, the last capital of the Roman Empire. Through a series of case studies, this research will examine potential models, their diffusion, and their relationship with potential patrons within the broader context of ecclesiastical territorialization. The analysis addresses substantive – not merely methodological – questions in the history of medieval art in Western Europe between the High and Late Middle Ages.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
