Nuove ricerche e scavi nell’area della Villa di Fiumana

Between 1960 and 1962, two excavation campaigns conducted by Giovanna Bermond Montanari at Fiumana (Forl, Italy) led to the discovery of a Roman villa. After sixty years, in 2022, the University of Parma launched new archaeological research at the site, focusing on areas where extraordinary satellite images perfectly showed the shape of large ancient buildings underground. The excavations were able to confirm the presence of two important phases: one of early imperial age and one of late ancient age. To the first phase, some remains of marble decorations discovered in 2023 can be related, while the two large buildings identified to the west and east parts of the area belong to the late antique phase. The baths of the villa were in the eastern building. The pottery and coins found suggest that the construction of the Late Antique complex took place in the fifth century AD.
