We propose an extension of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) concatenation rule to account for the impact of polarization-dependent loss (PDL) at a given outage probability, by introducing two penalty factors. The proposed SNR metric provides one single reference curve for performance encompassing amplifiers noise, Kerr nonlinearities, and PDL impairments.

Abstract
We propose an extension of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) concatenation rule to account for the impact of polarization-dependent loss (PDL) at a given outage probability, by introducing two penalty factors. The proposed SNR metric provides one single reference curve for performance encompassing amplifiers noise, Kerr nonlinearities, and PDL impairments.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
