Abstract

There are numerous paintings and drawings classified in the catalog of Francesco Mazzola known as Parmigianino to be returned to different authors and to a more advanced chronolo- gy than his life. In fact, in the second half of the sixteenth century we witnessed the ‘fortune’ of his pictorial style and a continuous revival of his forms. However, the fortune reserved for Parmigianino was poor, understood as good luck and expectation of life: his ‘failures’ include a kidnapping and a trial, but in one of his well-known drawings. Parmigianino seems to wear the attributes of the goddess of fate. This drawing probably dates to shortly before embarking on the journey to Rome – in the footsteps of his brother Zaccaria – when Francesco Mazzola went to present himself to the Pope – as ‘Raphael revived’ – and was instead involved in the Italian wars, and like his clients, sided with Charles V.
