Abstract

We describe the propagation of visible light in underwater wireless communications, with particular attention to vertical links. We compute power losses suffered by signals considering depth-dependent absorption, scattering, as well as the contribution of bubbles, under realistic channel conditions. We show how to select the best visible light wavelength to be used in transmission according to the specific channel characteristics.
