The merry-go-round of the muses. Interview with Sebastián Irarrázaval | Il girotondo delle muse. Intervista a Sebastián Irarrázaval

This interview took place thanks to the Milan International Architecture Workshop (MIAW) held at the Polytechnic Institute of Milan in February 2021 and dedicated to reflections on Milan’s Porta Romana. The many lessons and conversations with Irarrázaval gave rise to the idea of an interview that could summarize the numerous issues that emerged and whose relevance to the relationship between art and architecture naturally led to it being published in this issue. The interview touches on numerous themes that tend, as often happens in projects, to overlap each other. However, in the flow of this conversation, three principles with a more disruptive force emerge: translation, repetition, and wholeness. Three concepts that in their recurrence in every artistic process help to trace and describe the importance that the arts have had in the construction of the architectural language of Sebastián Irarrázaval.

Questa intervista nasce in occasione del workshop internazionale MIAW (Milan International Architecture Workshop), tenutosi presso il Politecnico di Milano nel febbraio 2021, dedicato a riflettere sullo scalo milanese di Porta Romana. Tra le tante lezioni e conversazioni con Irarrázaval è sorta l’idea di un'intervista in grado di dare sintesi alle numerose tematiche emerse e la cui attinenza al rapporto tra arte e architettura ne rendeva naturale la pubblicazione in questo numero. L’intervista tocca numerosi temi che tendono, come spesso accade nella pratica del progetto, a sovrapporsi l’un l’altro. Emergono però, nel fluire di questa conversazione, tre principi con forza più dirompente ovvero traduzione, ripetizione e totalità. Tre concetti che nel loro ricorrere in ogni processo artistico aiutano a rintracciare e descrivere l’importanza che le arti hanno avuto nella costruzione del linguaggio architettonico di Sebastián Irarrázaval.
