The present paper presents the preliminary results of a case study carried out at the University of Parma in which an intercomprehension-based approach was used for the first time with an experimental group which included learners with Specific Learning Difficulties. The study focused on some key psycho-cognitive variables (namely, self-efficacy, language anxiety and strategic competence) characterizing this category of learners which have already been investigated in Educational Linguistics. The data suggest that intercomprehension has positive effects on the three variables observed, despite some degree of variability among the participants. More data are about be collected by the research team in order to provide further support to the preliminary results here discussed.
