The essay, through multi-sited ethnographic research among Cape Verdeans in Cape Verde and Italy, reflects on the thematization of insularity by Cape Verdean society and intellectuals. It investigates the transformations that have taken place over time in relation to globalization and the feminization of migrations in the archipelago, which, since the 1970s, have become increasingly significant. In partic- ular, the essay focuses on how perceptions and the construction of Cape Verdean identity have changed in relation to colonial and post-colonial issues, transnational female migration, and insularity from a gendered perspective, dialoguing with the relational and archipelagic turn proposed by island scholars.

Abstract
The essay, through multi-sited ethnographic research among Cape Verdeans in Cape Verde and Italy, reflects on the thematization of insularity by Cape Verdean society and intellectuals. It investigates the transformations that have taken place over time in relation to globalization and the feminization of migrations in the archipelago, which, since the 1970s, have become increasingly significant. In partic- ular, the essay focuses on how perceptions and the construction of Cape Verdean identity have changed in relation to colonial and post-colonial issues, transnational female migration, and insularity from a gendered perspective, dialoguing with the relational and archipelagic turn proposed by island scholars.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
