Among its different forms, Audiovisual translation (AVT) has been expanding considerably thanks to ongoing technological developments. There are applications that are changing the audiovisual world daily with new proposals, which undoubtedly require study. In this research, we focus on one of the most recent modalities of AVT: Audio Description. It consists mainly of the description of the iconic content, although it can incorporate information on the graphic and even acoustic elements when these are incomprehensible either because they overlap with other sounds or because of their lack of clarity. Its initial target audience is the visually impaired. In this context, its main feature, accessibility, has aroused the interest not only of academics but also of the political world for its contribution to the social welfare of the sensory impaired who have not enjoyed the attention they deserve and whose rights, recognized in the Spanish Constitution (1978: art. 9), or in the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2006), have been ignored. It is clear that two different processes must be distinguished which will converge in a single product: on the one hand, the creation of the descriptive script, prior semiotic analysis of the codes that make up this audiovisual text, that is, the intersemiotic translation and, on the other hand, the technological one which involves the incorporation of this translation into the original soundtrack. In this work, therefore, we address the question of the description of images that convey cultural content, its transfer to the audio described script, and if it is addressed only to a public with visual impairments or if it can be extended to all people. After an essential presentation of the concept of cultural referent, the selected material will be exposed and analysed. These are film fragments belonging to cultures distant from each other. The purpose is to observe, on one side, the type of information introduced in the AD and the degree of comprehensibility; on the other, if it is for a specific audience.

Abstract
The purpose is to observe, on one side, the type of information introduced in the AD and the degree of comprehensibility; on the other, if it is for a specific audience.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
