The essay analyses some cases of agricultural education for children in Northern Italy between the second half of the 19th century and the early 20th century, including the pioneering Casa del Sole school in Milan. In doing so, it highlights how such didactics started with a utilitarian goal in the original context of rural areas, with the aim of teaching good basic practices to future agricultural workers, but then became experimental and innovative teaching in the urban context, inspiring respect for the environment in young people. Along this path, the comparison with the most successful educational experiences of the most avant-garde countries was of great importance.
