The paper shows the results of a broader research on late antique legislation. It aims to examine the relationship between the imperial constitutions and Roman jurists’ thought in order to explore its influence, the legal culture of the imperial chancellery, the use of logic and methods of classical jurisprudence, and the techniques of argumentation adopted.
