ABSTRACT: Power that enables the self-emancipation of those in a position of weakness, which is transformative because it is capacitating, rather than conservative, is the opposite pole of dominating power. This power is embodied in ‘endowment actions’ in which A sets the conditions for the enhancement of B’s material or symbolic resources (making the inversion of the power relation possible). This collaboration for the recognition of someone else, taking place within the more widespread struggle for recognition, can be carried out by individuals or groups. The study of actual enhancement of environmental resources in favor of future generations shows that in social reality endowment actions are more often hybridized with those of domination.
