A PID (proportional-integral-derivative) control has been implemented in a digital environment for the safety improvement of a food processing pilot plant. The system developed allows for the remote monitoring of the process parameters and the remote control on both the physical layer and the virtual one. The control has been developed under a LabVIEW environment, by using data acquisition and signal generator modules. The test results showed the ease of application of the plant control, the correct collection of data in a local database and the potential for remote monitoring via desktop remote with secured login to avoid security issues. Abstract
