This article aims to carry out a comparative analysis of the two French versions of Gianni Rodari’s La Freccia Azzurra (1964), one of his most ideological novels, highlighting his political views and commitment. Before examining the translations of the novel, we shall illustrate the conditions under which this work was imported into the French-speaking context, knowing that its reception came late and in a disordered fashion. Our analysis draws on both the texts and the peritexts. The comparative study of some aspects, such as culture-specific items, omissions and censorship, reveals that the retranslation tends to return to the source text, thus confirming the “retranslation hypothesis” developed by Berman and Bensimon. The translator and the publisher of this new version found it necessary to correct the shortcomings of the first translation and tried to expose the readers to the otherness, while restoring the militant and committed image of Rodari, that had more or less been ignored in the first version.
Lo studio è volto ad analizzare le traduzioni francesi della Freccia Azzurra (1964) di Gianni Rodari, uno dei suoi romanzi più ideologici in cui emergono le sue convinzioni e il suo impegno politico. Dopo aver presentato il contesto di importazione dell’opera rodariana oltralpe, dove lo scrittore viene accolto in modo tardivo e disordinato, il contributo prende in esame le traduzioni del romanzo concentrandosi sia sul testo sia sull’apparato peritestuale. Lo studio comparativo di alcuni aspetti, come i culturemi, le omissioni e le censure, evidenzia come la ritraduzione si iscriva in un movimento di ritorno al testo di partenza, confermando così l’«ipotesi della ritraduzione» formulata da Berman e Bensimon. Il traduttore e l’editore di questa nuova versione si sforzano di esporre il lettorato all’alterità e di restituire l’immagine di un Rodari militante e impegnato, messa in ombra dalla prima versione.
