Growing demand for Near-Zero-Energy- Buildings may present an attractive opportunity for the Autoclaved Aerated Concrete market. Thanks to its low thermal conductivity, AAC can be used for new buildings, as well as for the energetic retrofitting of existing ones. However, higher energetic efficiency is usually achieved through the reduction of AAC density, with a detrimental impact on its mechanical performances. In this work, the influence of density on mechanical and thermal properties of AAC will be discussed, by analysing some results of a wide experimental campaign on AAC blocks with different densities.

Abstract

Growing demand for Near-Zero-Energy- Buildings may present an attractive opportunity for the Autoclaved Aerated Concrete market. Thanks to its low thermal conductivity, AAC can be used for new buildings, as well as for the energetic retrofitting of existing ones. However, higher energetic efficiency is usually achieved through the reduction of AAC density, with a detrimental impact on its mechanical performances. In this work, the influence of density on mechanical and thermal properties of AAC will be discussed, by analysing some results of a wide experimental campaign on AAC blocks with different densities.
