The ceiling protection against the debris falling in civil construction works such as schools or public buildings, has seen increasing interest among the scientific community. The protection systems ensure safety by preventing debris falling that may cause damage to contents or human losses. To this aim, a galvanized welded steel wire mesh has been analyzed as a possible ceiling protection system. Firstly, a non-linear finite element (NLFE) model using Abaqus software has been developed to reproduce the mesh behaviour in case of uniformly distributed load configuration. Thereafter, the capacity in terms of load resistance and maximum displacement has been estimated analytically. Finally, the comparison between the two different approaches has been carried out and discussed. As a result, it can be stated that the protection system can withstand the load related to debris falling with a high margin of security.
