Chloride-induced corrosion is generally recognised as one of the main causes of degradation of concrete structures and infrastructures. Considering prestressed concrete (PC) elements, it is worth noting that the reduction of mechanical properties of prestressing strands induced by corrosion can lead to structural brittle failures due to higher stress levels in the steel. The present work proposes a simplified stress-strain model, named SCPS-model, for the response prediction of naturally corroded prestressing strands. Based on the comparison with tensile test outcomes derived from literature and despite the adopted simplifications, the developed constitutive law allows accurate prediction of the stress-strain response of corroded prestressing strands.
