Saverio Bettinelli, a Jesuit intellectual who witnessed in his long life the Ancien Régime, the fall of his religious order, the French Revolution, and the advent of Napoleon, is a relevant figure in a time in which the role of poetry and fiction was being deeply rethought under the suggestions of the Enlightenment and the changes in political thought. Through the analysis of the three versions of his short poem "Il mondo della Luna", the article aims at highlighting how the experience and praxis as educator influenced Bettinelli's poetry and how his work reflected the ongoing changes in the realm of studia humanitatis and in the relation between literature, science, and imagination.

Abstract
Saverio Bettinelli, a Jesuit intellectual who witnessed in his long life the Ancien Régime, the fall of his religious order, the French Revolution, and the advent of Napoleon, is a relevant figure in a time in which the role of poetry and fiction was being deeply rethought under the suggestions of the Enlightenment and the changes in political thought. Through the analysis of the three versions of his short poem "Il mondo della Luna", the article aims at highlighting how the experience and praxis as educator influenced Bettinelli's poetry and how his work reflected the ongoing changes in the realm of studia humanitatis and in the relation between literature, science, and imagination.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
