In December 2019, the UK High Court of Justice (Family division) issued an incidental fact-finding judgment concerning, inter alia, the forcible return to Dubai and subsequent confinement, allegedly orchestrated by the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, of two of his daughters. This article builds on this fact-finding judgment to analyze the alleged abductions from the standpoint of international law. To this purpose, it examines the international rules relevant to the case and investigates attribution issues, as well as some of the challenges stemming from the implementation of State responsibility. Despite its specificity, the case raises indeed complex issues of broader scope.

Abstract
In December 2019, the UK High Court of Justice (Family division) issued an incidental fact-finding judgment concerning, inter alia, the forcible return to Dubai and subsequent confinement, allegedly orchestrated by the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, of two of his daughters. This article builds on this fact-finding judgment to analyze the alleged abductions from the standpoint of international law. To this purpose, it examines the international rules relevant to the case and investigates attribution issues, as well as some of the challenges stemming from the implementation of State responsibility. Despite its specificity, the case raises indeed complex issues of broader scope.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
