Abstract

The Susa Valley is a small area situated between Maurienne in France and Turin in Italy. Over the past 50 years, it has been highly urbanized by the economic development of the region. The area is scarred by infrastructures like the Frejus highway, an international railway, and numerous dams, tunnels, and industries. This development has had significant environmental and social impacts. The High Speed Train line between Turin and Lyon is planned at the intersection of two main European axes to complement the European railway network by increasing the transport of passengers as well as goods. At a more speculative level, the core of such a biopolitical hypothesis resides in a novel formulation of the classical theoretical element, which refers to the relationship between life and politics. To simplify, it might be argued that before the emergence of biopolitics, the relation between life and politics was extrinsic, in the sense that the two poles defined different fields of intervention and development.
