Disumano,inumano e postumano. Alcune riflessioni tra J-P. Sartre e H.Arendt

Abstract: The subject of inhumanity can function as a guiding theme for understanding the different paths taken by Sartre and Arendt in their depictions of the moral, social, and political consequences of freedom in the sense of a power to create new beginnings. Despite their differences, Sartre and Arendt’s common phenomenological heritage allows one to recognize the persistence of shared concerns, such as the question of how to reconcile individual freedom with pluralism, and how to integrate personal moral commitments with public life. In order to respond to such questions, three thematic areas common to the two thinkers will be taken into consideration: the relationship between freedom and violence; self-presentation and the look; and the role of thought and choice in moral and political commitment.
