The need to improve the effectiveness of services and to optimize the use of resources has activated changes and innovations processes in the public sector. For healthcare organizations is particularly useful to develop management systems that enhance professionals, because the quality of services provided depend on professionals’ experiences, competences, and behaviors. This paper contributes to the renewal process of public sector by presenting the case of an Italian healthcare organization that has successfully introduced a new management method to enhance the skills of its healthcare professionals. The case study presented allows us to identify the variables that permit to successfully implement the change.
