The optimum Er concentration and waveguide length versus the injected pump power have been computed with a model based on the rate equations, starting from the measurements of the fluorescence lifetime (z) and the absorption and emission cross sections for glasses with different Er concentrations.

Abstract

We describe the optimization of the Er-SGBN glass in order to fabricate an active device for optical communication applications. The optimum Er concentration and waveguide length versus the injected pump power have been computed with a model based on the rate equations, starting from the measurements of the fluorescence lifetime (z) and the absorption and emission cross sections for glasses with different Er concentrations.
