The necessity for lower energy expense in existing buildings is facing today the challenge of refurbishing the historical heritage, overall in regards to Italy. However, the substantial differences between it and the broader non-historical existing stock require looking for a targeted approach to its energy evaluation and retrofitting. To this regard, the Research Centre Architettura>Energia of the Department of Architecture - University of Ferrara is specifically active on the assessment of focused energy analysis and calculation methods to apply to the particular historical building heritage. The paper presents the briefs of a research path going from the theoretical pro-and-cons analysis of the existing energy legislation and calculation protocols, to the elaboration of a fast and simple energy assessment tool (UPPER – Urban Parametric Protocol for the Energy Retrofit). Finally the manuscript illustrates the outcomes of its application on a case study: the historical abandoned town of Caporciano.

Abstract
Finally the manuscript illustrates the outcomes of its application on a case study: the historical abandoned town of Caporciano.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
