Danae fra Nevio, Ovidio, Planude e lo Pseudo-Euripide

Discussing further the origin of the pseudo-Euripidean Danae of Byzantine tradition ([Eur.] fr. 1132 K.: «Eikasmós», xxi 2010, pp. 49-88, pll. 1-3). P.Oxy. 5283 (TM 704647, II A.D.), published in 2016, the paper highlights how this bears traces, i.a., of the hypothesis of Euripides’ Danae, which is irreconcilable with the text of the one transmitted with the above-mentioned fragment. As to the possible, but not certain, relationship between Naev. Dan. fr. 12 Sch. and [Eur.] fr. 1132 32 K., the common image of the heroine receiving the golden rain in her hands first and only afterwards in her womb could derive, in the pseudepigraphic fragment, from the Planudean translation of Ov. met. xi 116 f., in both from a marginal iconographic tradition of the Classical period (Corinthian lekythos of 460-450 B.C. [Archaeological Museum of Corinth, inv. MP 90], “Beldam painter”).
