A new combination is described comprising one or more antimicrobial peptides derived from Naja atra cardiotoxins, one or more disinfectants selected from the group of quaternary ammonium compounds and/or organomercuric compounds and, optionally, one or more chelating agents. Antimicrobial peptides belong to the formula KLI- X1- SKTIPA- X2- KNL- X3- YKI, where the variable residues X1, X2 and X3 are further defined in the description. Pharmaceutical compositions and kits based on the above mentioned combination are also described. The combination according to the invention presents an enhanced, synergistic and selective activity towards Gram negative bacteria; the invention includes the use of the above mentioned combination in the treatment or prevention of Gram negative bacterial infections.
