This paper proposes a literature review concerning the processes of emotional socialization in the family context. The characteristics of the emotional socialization processes are described starting from the analysis of the main results of the empirical studies and of some theoretical models. Particular attention is dedicated to the studies that have analysed families at high psychosocial risk (maltreatment and psychopathological symptoms). In the last part of the review a validated training for parents is presented that aimed to promoting emotional coaching socialization. The efficacy of this training has been evaluated in several studies both through a normative and clinical population. Copyright © 2016 FrancoAngeli.

Abstract
This paper proposes a literature review concerning the processes of emotional socialization in the family context. The characteristics of the emotional socialization processes are described starting from the analysis of the main results of the empirical studies and of some theoretical models. Particular attention is dedicated to the studies that have analysed families at high psychosocial risk (maltreatment and psychopathological symptoms). In the last part of the review a validated training for parents is presented that aimed to promoting emotional coaching socialization. The efficacy of this training has been evaluated in several studies both through a normative and clinical population.
