Thanks to the excavations of 2015 and 2016, however, it was possible to recognise the existence of a Republican settlement in turn prior to the urban-rustic villa: a rustic farmhouse or a villa, with production atelier, dating from the second century B.C. to the middle of the I sec. With regard to ceramic materials of the late Republican age, in the excavation of the two furnaces, it is interesting to note the coexistence of non-turned ceramics, especially olle and dishes, with common pottery or black glazed pottery, in absolutely sealed layers and datable between the II and the I century B.C. The rustic villa of Galeata, in its phase of the Republican age, is attributable to the numerous rustic housing units built with poor building techniques and a planimetry traditionally open to the exterior, with the presence of artisan ateliers. The territory was characterized by the vast presence of similar settlements, distributed in vici and pagi connected to the urban road.

Abstract
The excavations in Galeata confirmed the presence of an urban-rustic villa, previous to Theodoric’s one, which remained in activity since the end of the I century. B.C. at least until the beginning of the fifth century A.D. Thanks to the excavations of 2015 and 2016, however, it was possible to recognise the existence of a Republican settlement in turn prior to the urban-rustic villa: a rustic farmhouse or a villa, with production atelier, dating from the second century B.C. to the middle of the I sec. B.C. At this phase, in addition to a series of masonry structures found in the strata underlying the Roman imperial remains, must be assigned two furnaces, with accessory compartments annexed, recently discovered. The territory was characterized by the vast presence of similar settlements, distributed in vici and pagi connected to the urban road.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
