Uchronie refers to that kind of history based on the question 'what if' that nowadays shows a growing and widespread interest; an attitude that at the same time generates doubts especially in historians. The article, after defining its characteristics and underlining the critical points of such an approach to history, intends to explore the potentialities of an historiographical and didactic use of this virtual dynamic.
