Lately, there have been many deep changes in the field of the rickettsial agents and of their relative diseases. New agents have been described: some are non-pathogen agents and the others are associated to well-defined or peculiar clinical patterns. In addition, we are able to find different species of rickettsiosis in relation to the geographic areas of the world. Besides some agents may be defined as variants of older diseases, most of the newly described forms of rickettsiosis represent distinct entities with unique epidemiologial and clinical features. Moreover, a new aspect is linked to the medicine of travellers and tourists. Therefore, an investigation on the geographical origin of the patients has to enter in our routinely medical work.

Abstract
Lately, there have been many deep changes in the field of the rickettsial agents and of their relative diseases. New agents have been described: some are non-pathogen agents and the others are associated to well-defined or peculiar clinical patterns. In addition, we are able to find different species of rickettsiosis in relation to the geographic areas of the world. Besides some agents may be defined as variants of older diseases, most of the newly described forms of rickettsiosis represent distinct entities with unique epidemiologial and clinical features. Moreover, a new aspect is linked to the medicine of travellers and tourists. Therefore, an investigation on the geographical origin of the patients has to enter in our routinely medical work.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
