A particular kind of driven micropiles, made by a steel hollow bar with very small diameter, is considered. The research activity herein described aimed at investigating if these micropiles can be designed by adopting the same analytical methods that are widely used for traditional medium- and large-diameter piles. On the basis of field data of micropiles installed in different sites and by using the Monte Carlo analysis, it has been possible to optimize the method to calculate the compression resistance, based on CPTs. Moreover, the statistical approach is applied to obtain appropriate resistance factors that can be used for limit-state design.
