The attribution of the inscriptional epigram CEG 270 is discussed, with reference to the recent edition and commentary of Sara Kaczko (Berlin-Boston 2016). Given that in all likelihood the name of the dedicator – the victorious dithy- rambic poet, not the choregos – was inscribed extra metrum, the identification with Simonides of Ceos (C. Gallavotti) is not to be excluded, while other dithy- rambists, and especially Diagoras of Melos (D.M. Lewis), are very unlikely at least for chronological reasons.

Abstract
The attribution of the inscriptional epigram CEG 270 is discussed, with reference to the recent edition and commentary of Sara Kaczko (Berlin-Boston 2016). Given that in all likelihood the name of the dedicator – the victorious dithy- rambic poet, not the choregos – was inscribed extra metrum, the identification with Simonides of Ceos (C. Gallavotti) is not to be excluded, while other dithy- rambists, and especially Diagoras of Melos (D.M. Lewis), are very unlikely at least for chronological reasons.File in questo prodotto:
