CARTE E CARTOGRAFI SULL’APPENNINO LIGURE-EMILIANO. LA STRADA DI CENTO CROCI NEI PROGETTI DI MATTEO E PANFILIO VINZONI E DI PIERRE-PAUL DE COTTE

In the second half of the eighteenth century the Duchy of Parma and the Republic of Genoa agree to build a carriageway that, through the pass of Cento Croci on the Apennines, would connect the Ligurian Sea to the Adriatic through the Po river. The project is carried out only at the end of the nineteenth century, but committed for a long time the engineers-cartographers of the two States, leaving us a large number of cartographic works: today interesting sources for the landscape studies related to the transformations to the eighteenth-century “road revolution”. In this short article I want to focus in particular on the works of Matteo and Panfilio Vinzoni and Pier-Paul De Cotte, key-figures in the history of cartography and for the local history, between Liguria and Emilia.
