From late 1978 to February 1979, the Italian media were particularly interested in the Islamic Revolution in Iran. These events and the anomalous Islamist-led rebellion above all surprised the Italian party newspapers and journals: if Communists were pleased to see a revolution against the Shah, Italian Christian-Democrats were deeply worried about the overthrow of the major US Middle East ally against the Soviets; in the middle, Socialists were both attracted and suspicious about the outcome of the revolution. In this paper, several articles from Italian party-owned newspapers will be analysed, in order to show the different views on the Islamic revolution.

Abstract
From late 1978 to February 1979, the Italian media were particularly interested in the Islamic Revolution in Iran. These events and the anomalous Islamist-led rebellion above all surprised the Italian party newspapers and journals: if Communists were pleased to see a revolution against the Shah, Italian Christian-Democrats were deeply worried about the overthrow of the major US Middle East ally against the Soviets; in the middle, Socialists were both attracted and suspicious about the outcome of the revolution. In this paper, several articles from Italian party-owned newspapers will be analysed, in order to show the different views on the Islamic revolution.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
