Abstract
The parcel-geometric cadastres, consisting of textual and cartographic documents, began to spread in Italy starting from the Eighteenth century. These, especially when combined with censuses, allow giving spatial connotation to phenomena that, in fact, do not. In order to exploit the inherent capabilities of these tools, Historical Geographic Information Systems (HGIS) today constitute the fundamental means by which to structure new methods of investigation and knowledge of reality. Starting from an interdisciplinary research activity carried out within the DICATeA of the University of Parma, this paper aims to analyse the topics related to the use of these instruments, in order to interpret the material and immaterial aspects of reality that led the urban landscape in which we live to take on its current configuration.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
