The velocity fields induced by regular breaking waves past a fixed bar on a 1:10 rigid plane slope were measured and analysed using a volumetric particle-tracking velocimetry system. The linear momentum is generally positive during breaking (transfer toward the crest) and negative immediately after breaking (transfer from the crest toward the underlying flow field). The average pressure gradient during breaking influences the profile of the breaker.
