The development of scalable and efficient applications requires some appropriate models and programming technique. This paper presents an actor-based software framework that allows the development of scalable and efficient applications through the possibility of using different implementations of the components that drive the execution of their actors. In particular, the paper shows how the performance of applications can be optimized by choosing the best combination among the alternative implementations of its components.
