Freedom represents a theme that constitutes the very heart of Claudel's poetics. It passes through that "drame testamentaire" that is "Le Soulier de satin". The notion of freedom represents in fact the ultimate destiny to which the two protagonists are called, but also the deep centre of the aesthetical reflection which is present in the work.
