The purpose of this paper is to obtain a better understanding of the presence of Chinese manufacturing entrepreneurship in industrial districts compared to other Italian local economies, especially the metropolitan ones. This comparison is justified by the current debate in Italy on the juxtaposition between district economies and metropolitan economies. Moreover, it is worthwhile to explore statistical data to uncover where Chinese manufacturing entrepreneurs localize their businesses and to what extent this localization builds a split within the geographical pattern of industrial districts. Data on Chinese manufacturing micro-enterprises (i.e., with less than 10 persons employed) born in years 2005/07 and 2008/10 are cross-tabulated by industrial districts to investigate their change.
