The paper reconstructs the main theoretical implications of the dark room related to perceptual issues, the luck of the dark room in the modern era, and the discredit attached to it in the course of the 20th century. Despite this discredit, the main embarrassing implications of the dark room are still implicitly present in some very important theories developed during the second half of the 20th century. On the other hand, the contemporary theories that are free of such implications contain a gap concerning how we can come to explain the class of representational contents of the perceptual experience.
