Febbri pestilenziali in un trattato zaratino del XVI secolo

Federik Grisogono Bartolačić is the first infectious diseases physician from Croatia; in his De modo collegiandi, pronosticandi et curandi febres (Venice 1528) he deals with the problems of etiology, symptomatology and therapy of pestilence, one of the worst plagues raging throughout Dalmatia and Europe. His knowledge of the epidemic disease roots in the classical tradition absorbed by the philosophical and medical culture of the age. Referring to the astrological theory as the first cause of pestilence, he believes that only the science of Astrology is able to guarantee a right prognosis and a successful treatment. This work is an attempt to give a comparative reading of this treatise on pestilence, together with others written by his contemporaries, some of whom professors at Padua University.
